Tourism income shows a rare increase

Tourism income in Cyprus recorded a rare increase in May, as revenue from tourism recorded CYP 119.8 mln (EUR 204.6 mln), compared with  CYP 111.9 mln (EUR 191.1 mln) in the corresponding month of 2006, according to the Passengers’ survey.

Tourism revenue thus recorded an increase of 7.1%.

This is only the second time this year that revenue had risen but the rise was large enough to bring the numbers up for the whole year to date.

For the period January-May 2007, revenue from tourism is estimated by the Statistical Service at CYP  274.5 mln (EUR  468.9 mln) compared with CYP 269.5 mln (EUR 460.4 mln) in the corresponding period of 2006, recording an increase of 1.9%.
