The island’s first four solar parks will be powered by Enfoton Solar photovoltaic panels. The deal, worth EUR 1.5 mln, is for the installation of 2,600 panels that generate 1,000,000 kWh and prevent the dumping of about 900 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
Each park will have a total installed capacity of 150kWp, bringing the total for all four to 600kWp. The parks will be erected a few kilometres from Nicosia, in the Orounta area.
The main selection criteria were the high quality, high efficiency and high reliability of the Enfoton panels, whose performance has been proven in practice through the installation of more than 400,000 panels so far, in large photovoltaic parks and rooftops in many European countries, mainly in Germany.
Enfoton Solar Ltd was established in 2002 and is a wholly Cypriot-owned company with a high export activity. Production has increased steadily each year and skyrocketed fivefold from 2008 to 2009 and reached 130,925 panels for a total export value of EUR 59 mln. The production capacity at Enfoton’s new head office in Kokkinotrimithia has increased to 110MW.
The company was recently awarded the European Excellence Award for 2008, while in 2005 it was awarded the Cyprus Special Export Award for its innovative products and high export volumes.

CERA VISIT

Meanwhile, the president of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority, Georgios Shammas, Vice President Constantinos Eliopoulos, board member Kypros Kyprianides and other high ranking CERA officials visited Enfoton’s solar panel manufacturing facility at Kokkinotrimithia Industrial Estate.
The CERA officials were briefed on the various problems facing the solar energy sector in Cyprus and on the fact that although the solar incidence on Cyprus is among the highest on the planet, Cyprus unfortunately remains a laggard in installed solar photovoltaic energy capacity.
