Cyprus retail trade tumbles 6.5% (prov) in Dec

Retail trade volumes sank by 6.5% over the year earlier in December according to provisional figures for the month, or by 6.6% when sales of automotive fuel are excluded.
This was after an already tough November, in which sales volumes including fuel dropped by 2.8% compared with November 2011.
Sales slid by 0.5% over the year earlier in October.
For the period January-December 2011, the retail volume index is provisionally estimated to have fallen by 0.9% compared with 2010.
In terms of value, the index is provisionally estimated to have increased by 3.2% compared with 2010. Consumer prices rose by 3.3% in 2011.
