Leaders dinner nothing more than a social meeting, Cyprus government reiterates

The dinner to be held here on Thursday between the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will be a social event, Deputy Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos reiterated on Wednesday.

In statementas after a meeting of the Cabinet, and asked about tomorrow’s dinner, that will be hosted by the UN, Papadopoulos said that the dinner is nothing more than a social meeting between the leaders.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory.

This will be the first encounter between President Anastasiades and Eroglu, since Anastasiades’ election in February.
