Everything is ready for the 8th Limassol International Marathon which will be held on Sunday, March 16, with over 5,000 participations, despite the financial crisis.
The Limassol event is accredited by the world federations AIMS and IAAF, and comprises a straight course along the coast, from the city centre towards the Amathus archaeological site and back, covering a total of 42 km.
Technical Director Vasilis Vavalos said the main aims of the marathon were to attract tourism and promote sports, adding that this year there will be participants from the United Kingdom, Russia, the USA, China, Japan and the Arab Emirates.
Vavalos pointed out that the financial crisis had not left the Marathon unaffected, adding that the foreign runners had noted the huge cost of traveling to Cyprus.
Regarding the events, these include the full Marathon, the Half Marathon, the 10km Health Race, the 5km City Race, the 5km Corporate Race, and the 1km Student Race.
