SPORTS: Kyriacos Ioannou secures silver medal at Commonwealth Games

Cypriot champion in high jump Kyriacos Ioannou has won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ioannou secured the silver medal at the men`s high jump final after his first successful attempt at 2.28m.

Canadian Derek Drouin secured the gold medal with a jump at 2.31m.

Ioannou`s silver medal was the seventh medal for Cyprus at the games.

Cyprus ranks fourteenth in the medal standing, with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Ioannou’s personal best jump and Cypriot national record is 2.35 metres, achieved at the 2007 World Championships held in Osaka where he won the bronze medal. He became the first World Championships medalist from Cyprus.
