CYPRUS: Trade deficit widens by €620 mln

Cyprus’ trade deficit marked an increase of EUR 620.8 mln in the January-September period, due to the significant increase of imports and decrease of exports.


 
According to the statistical service Cystat, total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other EU Member States) in January-September amounted to EUR 4,355.5 mln as compared to EUR 3.857,9 mln in January-September 2015.
Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other EU Member States) in January-September were EUR 1,229.8mn compared to EUR 1,353 mln in January-September 2015.
The trade deficit was EUR 3,125.7mln in January-September compared to EUR 2,504.9mln in the corresponding period of 2015.
During September, total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other EU Member States) valued at EUR 454.4mln.
Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other EU Member States), including stores and provisions, in September 2016 amounted to EUR 151 mln.
Exports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were EUR 90.2 mln whilst exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, were EUR 60.8 mln.
On a monthly basis, the trade deficit stood at EUR 309,8mln in October, compared to EUR 303,3mln in September and EUR 311mln in September 2015.
On the basis of preliminary estimates for foreign trade in October, total imports / arrivals were EUR 480,0 mln, of which EUR 337,0 mln were arrivals from other Member States of EU and EUR 143,0 mln imports from third countries.
Total exports/dispatches were EUR 170,2 mln of which EUR 80,1 mln were dispatches to other Member States of EU and EUR 90,1 mln exports to third countries.
