Cyprus telecom companies have launched their new festive campaigns, banking on the season of goodwill to increase their market share.
At this time of year tens of thousands of consumers will have extra cash in their pockets as they will have received their tax-free 13th salary.
With the holidays just around the corner, consumers will also be looking for gifts for loves ones and to treat themselves.
In an effort to draw them in, telecom firms are offering reduced fixed fees and discounts on devices that consumers can choose according to the contract they opt for.
Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (Cyta) announced that for the month of December it will be doubling mobile internet volume for all RED subscribers as well for clients using ‘so easy plus’ packages who top up their phones with EUR 10 or more.
It offers twice the data volume for its basic RED and BLACK packages. The extra free mobile internet will be given to all existing customers who as of 30 November had a RED, BLACK or RED Family programme.
Meanwhile, the quasi-state communications authority will be launching a campaign to promote its 5G network in the first quarter of 2019 with a pilot programme.
MTN has also announced that it is offering a 20% discount on any mobile phone device to consumers who opt to transfer their number to MTN.
The offer applies to all smartphones, laptops or tablets with any mobile plan which has been already or will be in effect between 19 November and 5 January 2019. This offer also applies for a number of existing subscribers who wish to renew contract plans.
The Christmas discount offer applies only to new subscribers with a number transfer to any MTN mobile plan for a minimum subscription period of 24 months and for existing subscribers with contract renewal for MTN mobile Unlimited 3 and Unlimited 6 mobile plans for a minimum subscription period of 24 months .
Primetel is offering gifts worth up to EUR 1000 for each new subscriber.
Every new subscriber can, according to Primetel's Christmas promotion campaign, choose a phone or a voucher worth up to EUR 1000, depending on the mobile package, that can be redeemed at specific stores.
Primetel is offering a second choice to consumers, who can opt for a discount on mobile phone contracts’ fixed fees of up to 50%, coupled with Primetel's "Christmas gift" ranging from smartwatches to cameras, tablets and smartphones.
Cablenet currently offers mobile telephony packages with a discount of up to 50% on fixed rates for all 24-month contracts.
In some cases, an extra two months of free subscription is offered.
