ECONOMY: Cyprus assures Russia it is a reliable partner

Cyprus and Russia will continue to enjoy a mutually beneficial economic partnership, President Nicos Anastasiades said.

He assured Cyprus will remain a reliable partner of Russia and further advance its position as a significant international hub for Russian and Cypriot business and investment.

Speaking at a gala dinner in Limassol hosted by the Cyprus-Russia Business Association and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anastasiades said the two countries share a long-standing relationship founded on concrete and deeply-entrenched political, economic, cultural and religious ties.

He said an important pillar of the relationship between Cyprus and Russia is the economic cooperation, business and investments collaboration which are always in line with international standards and obligations and the need for transparency and accountability.

“I wish to convey in the strongest terms that the business community of the Russian Federation, either present in Cyprus or abroad, can rest assured that Cyprus will remain a reliable partner and further advance its position as a significant international hub for Russian and Cypriot business and investment synergies,” said Anastasiades.

He also praised the contribution of the Russian community in Cyprus for its active contribution to the economy.

Moscow has recently voiced concern about the number of Russian accounts being closed in Cyprus.
