ENISA promoted the first time ever meeting between key actors from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan on the setting up of brand new CERTs (Computer Emergency Response Teams).

The event gives evidence to the emerging trend of a new CERT community in the central and eastern parts of Europe under the guidance of CERT Polska. ENISA welcomes this development and will remain available to further assist its Polish colleagues in their endeavours for progress, on request.

Hosted by CERT Polska, the Polish national CERT, the aim of the Workshop was to guide and assist these countries into how to get the teams up and running, and to bring them up to date on the latest developments in the field of CERT.

The Workshop celebrated the 10th anniversary of the previously known Polish CERT NASK, and helped the new managers to understand how to tackle problems involved in setting up operations for new CERTs, as well as to prepare them to face a range of challenges. Together with CERT Polska’s experts, the Senior Expert of ENISA, Mr. Marco Thorbruegge, co-organised and moderated part of the event, in order to support the initiative. Mr. Thorbruegge also presented the recently launched ENISA European Step-by-Step guide on how to set up a CERT.

Background

CERT POLSKA is the official name of the team since January 2001. It was formerly known as CERT NASK. Since February 1997 CERT POLSKA has been a full member of the worldwide Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams. CERT NASK was established in March 1996 according to the disposition of the NASK (Research and Academic Network in Poland) Director. Current CERT POLSKA headquarter is located at the NASK site in Warsaw, Poland.
