Industrial turnover outpaces production

The industrial turnover index (comprising mining and quarrying, manufacturing, and electricity, gas and water supply) reached 116.3 units (Base 2000=100) in August 2006, recording an increase of 7.3% compared to August 2005.

This was much higher that the figure for total industrial production, which rose by only 1.9% in the same period.

For manufacturing, the turnover index for August 2006 reached 104.5 units, recording an increase of 5.3% compared to August 2005. Manufacturing production fell by 0.5% in August 2006.

In the period January – August 2006 the turnover index recorded an increase of 5.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. In the same period, the production index recorded a decline of 0.4%.
